The Thursday Murder Club is a cozy, fun, and just uplifting read. No super high stakes, no heart pounding thriller moments, just scenes of pause, and the beauty of trying to stick together what actually happened in their small retirement community. A murder that won’t have you on the edge of your seat, but tucked away neatly in your bed, with your drink of choice, ready to read about what the “old folks” are up to tonight. Comfy, cozy, and cute!

Synopsis: The Thursday Murder Club is a jaunty and light-hearted cozy mystery focused on four friends living in a retirement village called Coopers Chase who enjoy getting together on Thursdays to investigate and solve cold cases -- the Thursday Murder Club.

One day, just before a large new development is soon to break ground in Coopers Chase, the main builder is murdered, with the killer leaving a photograph let next to the body. The Thursday Murder Club immediately gets on the case, but when another body is found, the plot thickens and the group knows they need to find the killer before it's too late!

I picked this book up as my hometown library was giving oodles and oodles of books away - intrigued by the title and the conversations around it, I decided to give it a try – and I am so glad that I did. While this isn’t an over the top terrifying murder case, it’s one of intrigue and just enough thrill to have you wondering what is going to happen next. Plotting and planning, figuring out how all the pieces fit together in a nice little bow at the end – the world’s coziest murder mystery. The cast of characters that we are introduced too are unique and fun, squirrely and within their own archetypes, they make the story come to life, really breathing in the reality of life into the novel. It sometimes felt that I too was there in the room with them, trying to figure out who did what while sipping my fresh hot tea.

The mystery itself is intriguing and intricate enough to keep you reading, watching and growing more invested as more and more details come to life, as any good mystery does. With the wide cast of characters and their overlapping stories, it makes the story sometimes become muddled, especially in the big reveal, I had to re-read a few times to truly grasp what was actually happening. That being said, the ending was far from what I was expecting in the most consistent and different way. I was surprised, I was wrong in my predictions, and I had a damn good time trying to figure this story out.

The one thing that stood out to me as well within this novel was the humanity woven into each character. The love, the life, the loss, the want that each character had and the different relationships they exhibited within themselves, others, and the world, was wholesome and inspiring. Having a cast of characters who are almost all over the age of 50 grants insights to the literature world I haven’t really seen, most of the characters in my novels are people in their 20’s or creatures who have been alive for 117 years… having the characters still develop even with the main plot line coinciding was simply cute. I enjoyed getting to know more about their personalities, their lives, the love they had or have, as well as their outlook on the world. I don’t have grandparents that I am close too, so in some ways it was healing, as if I could find comfort and a place within this elderly folk at the retirement home.

If you’re looking for a cozy, cute, low-stakes murder mystery, I highly recommend the fun, engaging, and quite wholesome novel: The Thursday Murder Club.
