5/5

These books will never not be absolute beauties of novels and never will I rate them lower than a five stars. If that's the case you're probably wondering what I'm reviewing...really nothing. I am simply going to embody my fourteen year old self and just talk about the things I love about these first three books, and hopefully you'll stick around and nod in agreement with my findings. I'll be reviewing Harry Potter &The Sorcerers Stone, Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets, and my personal favorite of the whole series Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban.

The world of Harry Potter is one that I've adored and happily been a part of since I was a young child. My mom read them and then passed her beaten copies to me and my younger brother. They lay on his bookshelf currently, taped badly but loved very well. These stories hold the secret to an amazing group of books. They are simply greats amongst the reading community.

The Sorcerers Stone sets the stage almost flawlessly. Right away we as the readers are wondering who Harry is, what is the world that he's apart of, and what is going to happen next. We get to see Hogwarts and the introduction of the wizarding world through the eyes of an 11 year old, which makes it not only digestiable but often times innocent and sweet. Harry is thrust into this world, and I would say he tackles his first year pretty damn well.

With the first book is the introduction to some of my favorite characters, Hermione and Ron. Hermonie is a know-it-all and one of the greatest witches of the age. She's intelligent, yes, but she's also fiercly kind, witty, and a force to be reckon with. She's a true feminst icon and I love her. Now Ron...Ron is one of myt favorite fictional characters ever. I've written countless college essays about his huge part within the story and Harry's development in the story as well as identifying with Ron as a strong protagonistic side character and what that means. I also defended him recently during a work meeting. He was rated as the top wizard but the main reason being for marrying Hermionie...totally inccorect. Ron is brave and kind, he's loyal as can be and when it really matters he's a kick ass wizard.

Ron fan club then and Ron fan club now.

Our first story is fun and just thrilling enough that the readers want to know what happens next year.

The Chamber of Secrets.

I love this book as well. The thrill of trying to figure out who the heir of Slytherin is as well as the school turning on Harry is such a develomental part of the story and obviously one that doesn't go away. It's the first time that Harry starts to question whether he even belongs at Hogwarts or even within the wizarding world. He's questioning if Hogwarts is really his home away from home. Though, of course, with the help of his friends he realizes it truly is his home. The introduction of an almost touchable Tom Riddle is an exciting plot point as well as the fight with the basilisk. We of course can't forget one of the most annoying wizards of all time, Gilderoy Lockhart. He's such an interesting color of a character to throw into this story that you can't help but giggle when he's in a scene, and not because you're smitten by his charming good looks but because he's an actual idiot.

Now, to my favorite Harry Potter book: The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Words cannot describe how much I adore this book. It adds more to the story of Harry's parents dying, it delivers a real connection between Potter and his parents death with the introduction of Sirius Black (I love this man). This book also starts to show characters form the past introduced into Harry's life. Remus Lupin (I love him too...#wolfstar for life) along with Sirius, Peter, and of course Snape and the essence of James, Harry starts to piece together a more clear picture of his parents. This book has everything. There's mystery, secrecy, werewolves, a convict on the run, and of course another piece of the puzzle regarding harry and Lord V's intertwined past and future.

Because I simply just can't choose one, here are a few of my favorite scenes from this novel:

  1. Fred & George giving Harry the Marauders Map

I love the Marauders. I wish J.K Rowling would write their story so badly that I can almost taste it. But for now I'll settle with mounds and mounds of fan fiction (though All The Young Dudes is my favorite) This map is a tangible pice of Harry's father and his friends. It's the product of four friends who truly loved each other and left their mark on Hogwarts.

2. Sirius and Remus telling Harry about who actually killed his parents

This scene is intense but also a little funny. Remus and Sirius bicker like an old couple and are constantly running each other over with trying to tell Harry what happened. Not to mention that Remus is calm and collected while Sirius is all "let me kill him now...what about now...NOW?!?" through the whole thing. Also, not to mention that Sirius asks Harry to live with him that summer--ah just warms my heart.

3. Harry seeing Uncle Vernon at the train station

Harry is a sassy little boy, and every time I re-read these books I seem to forget that. When he holds his letter saying he can go to Hogsmeade signed by Sirius and tells Vernon "yeah my godfather is a murderer on the run and is wanted by the whole wizarding world...he'll be checking up on me this summer to make sure I'm okay..." and Vernon just stares back at him in shock. I giggle every time. Like yes little thirteen year old Harry you tell em!

These first three books are so wholesome and fun. They're full of laughs and moments of terror. Moments of childish bliss and adult issues. They are simply just great books that tell a great, great story.

If anyone was wondering: My house is Slytherin. I get mixed reviews about that but I'm proud. Dark green, silver, and black are my colors and I am ambitious, intelligent, and a little sassy...I'm also a Capricorn.

So, do with that information what you will.

But here's to re-reading old books and visiting old friends whom we love :) I'll see you guys when I've read books 4-6, until then:

happy reading <3
